It's stupid at best, but likely deliberately dishonest. What's interesting is it's dishonest exactly the same way Ontario NDP leader Andrea Horwath was dishonest in statements I noted only yesterday.
I hope working people realize the NDP is no longer a social justice party, but a marketing front for dishonest, innumerate, Greenpeace zealots.
The following is my comment the Greenpeace system did not allow on their blog entry:
You don't know what you are talking about - or you are deceiving deliberately.
In 2009 the GA surged because the HOEP dropped. There wasn't much movement in the combination of the two, which is what constitutes the commodity price.
The increases that did occur were primarily due to oversupply as demand collapsed - and all inflexible supply contributed to that. The cost was both in paying suppliers not to produce (including Bruce), and in paying generators far more than export customers were sold the power for.
Most of the increase in consumer rates has been on the delivery line over the past 8 years, and lately about 1/2 the capital spending at Hydro One is reportedly due to the GEA (previously it's been largely impacted by the smart meter program).
Also, for the period noted nuclear produced about 54% of electricity, so the fact it was responsible for 45% of the GA pot would indicate it is proportionally cheaper than the remainder of the mix (and that remainder includes very cheap hydro, so what's left would have to be much more expensive).
